Shortcut Gamer a gaming site run by aspiring journalists from the Sacramento, California region. The site aims to adhere to journalistic standards, including Associated Press style. However, we don’t always stick so strictly to that formula, and will sometimes write in an informal manner.
Shortcut Gamer is run by a very small group of journalism students. We do this on an unpaid, volunteer basis as a way to pad our portfolios with more published work and to help market ourselves to potential employers.
We cannot cover everything going on in the gaming world, so we’ve created the concept of a website that acts as a shortcut to the information that really matters. That said, we do our best to cover as much as possible, but don’t always have time to cover everything.
The Shortcut Gamer reporters aim to be as unbiased as possible, but we want readers to understand that we do insert our opinions, even into news articles from time to time. This is the nature of a blog – the style on which we are based – and we want our site to have a casual feel.
When it comes to reviews, opinion articles, lists, rants and raves and any other such articles, please keep in mind that the views and opinions expressed on this site are solely those of the individual author and don’t necessarily represent the opinions of the site’s founder or other authors on the site.
We encourage you, the viewer, to give us your opinion as well. Just remember to keep things civil and respectful. The preferred method for this is via the comments section on the site, but we also want our readers to interact with us on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Twitch.
If you’d like to get involved with Shortcut Gamer and you are a journalism major (preferably from the Sacramento area), a college graduate who majored in the fields of journalism, design or communications or are an English major who is interested in learning journalistic style, please contact us.
Shortcut Gamer was established on October 11, 2012 by Daniel Wilson as Sac City Gamer (SCG). The site was originally intended to be a blog on the Sac City Express website, for which Daniel was an editor at the time, but when that idea didn’t pan out (mostly due to technical issues), Daniel decided to start the blog on his own.
In its early days, Sac City Gamer was simply a blog for Daniel to share his thoughts on the gaming world, but it later evolved into a website dedicated to news, reviews, lists, opinions and more.
On January 2, 2016, the website adopted a new name, Shortcut Gamer (or ShortCut Gamer), to help expand to viewers and content beyond the Sacramento area while maintaining the SCG acronym and adopting the moniker that our website is the fastest route to everything gaming.
We now focus on offering just the news that gamers want to read most while still delivering the reviews, features, opinions, lists and more that our fans have come to know and love.
